These are our plays in the precise Fourth Folio sequence: comedies, (English) histories, tragedies, and the seven new plays added by the Third Folio of 1664.

All four folios were published during the seventeenth century, and across them Shakespeare's English is progressively modernized.

Some years later, seventeen sheets of the Fourth Folio were reprinted to make up a shortage in the original printing. Copies incorporating these later sheets have sometimes been called the “Fifth Folio.” The date of the reprinting is uncertain.
